Introduction<\/h2>\n

You can create rules to apply colour to the cells in the Grade Centre grid, either by grade or status. Creating colour rules in the Grade Centre provides visual indicators to help you interpret information quickly. For example, you can use yellow to highlight graded items with failing scores so students and columns that require attention are prominent. Also, you can assign colours to the following grading statuses:\u00a0In Progress,\u00a0Needs Grading, or\u00a0Exempt.<\/p>\n

By default, colour coding is not enabled in the Grade Centre, and to use colour coding you need to enable it in any Grade Centre view. After you define and save the colour rules, the colour coding applies to all views. This setting persists when the course is copied and restored.<\/p>\n

How to Colour Code the Grade Centre<\/h2>\n

  1. On the action bar in the Grade Centre, hover over the Manage<\/strong>\u00a0menu and click\u00a0Grading Colour Codes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    3. In the\u00a0Colour Coding Options<\/strong>\u00a0section, you can perform the following tasks:
    \n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For each\u00a0Grading Status<\/strong>, click the down pointing arrows icon in the\u00a0Background Colour\u00a0column to access the\u00a0swatch colour\u00a0box.<\/p>\n

    4. In the\u00a0swatch colour\u00a0box, select a colour and click\u00a0Apply<\/strong>\u00a0to save it.<\/p>\n

    In the\u00a0Grade Ranges<\/strong>\u00a0section, you can perform the following tasks:<\/p>\n

    • Click\u00a0Add Criteria<\/strong>\u00a0to create a colour rule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • In the\u00a0Criteria\u00a0drop-down, select\u00a0Between,\u00a0More Than, <\/strong>or\u00a0Less Than<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        • Type a percentage in the box or boxes.<\/li>\n
        • For\u00a0Background Colour<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Text<\/strong>, click the down pointing arrows icon to access the\u00a0swatch colour\u00a0box.<\/li>\n
        • Select a colour and click\u00a0Apply<\/strong>\u00a0to save it.<\/li>\n
        • Click\u00a0Add Criteria<\/strong>\u00a0to create an additional\u00a0Grade Ranges<\/strong>\u00a0field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          If you create a rule that contains some of the same information as another rule, the system generates a warning, allowing you to edit your criteria.<\/p>\n

          Click\u00a0Submit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

          The\u00a0Grade Ranges\u00a0section allows you to preview your colour choices in the\u00a0Indicator Preview\u00a0column. If you do not approve of a colour choice, click the\u00a0Reset\u00a0icon (\u00a0 \"Reset\u00a0), represented by two circling arrows.<\/p>\n

          The Grade Centre page appears with a success message stating that the colour coding is updated. Colours based on your rules appear in the affected cells.<\/p>\n

          Manage grading colour codes in the Grade Centre<\/h2>\n

          You can choose to turn colour coding on and off, or edit the colour rules you\u2019ve created. After you enable colour coding, the\u00a0Hide\/Show Colour Coding<\/strong> function appears on the action bar in the Grade Centre.<\/p>\n

          In any view of the Grade Centre, click\u00a0Hide Colour Coding<\/strong>\u00a0on the action bar to remove all defined colours from the cells. The colour rules are retained.<\/p>\n

          Click\u00a0Show Colour Coding<\/strong>\u00a0on the action bar to reapply the defined colour to the affected cells.<\/p>\n

          How to edit grading colour codes<\/h2>\n

          At any time, you can edit the colours chosen or delete existing criteria. You can also create additional criteria.<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. On the action bar in the Grade Centre, point to\u00a0the Manage menu<\/strong> \u00a0and click\u00a0Grading Colour Codes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            2. On the\u00a0Grading Colour Codes\u00a0page, clear the check box for\u00a0Enable Grading Colour Codes\u00a0to remove all defined colour from the cells in the Grade Centre.

            The colour rules you created remain on the\u00a0Grading Colour Codes\u00a0page and you can reapply them at any time by selecting this check box again.<\/p>\n

            When you disable colour coding, no function for showing or hiding colour coding appears on the Grade Centre action bar.<\/p>\n

            3. Select a new colour or click the\u00a0Reset\u00a0icon (\u00a0 \"Reset\u00a0) – represented by two circling arrows – to remove a colour rule.<\/p>\n
