One of the key strategic objectives we support is UoR’s commitment to tackling climate change through it’s world leading research in climate change and climate education initiatives. Advocating for a Better Planet is a new flagship, short online course created exclusively for all University of Reading students. The course was launched in October 2025. It explores the concept of advocacy, drawing on contributions from staff, students, and alumni from across the University. It guides students through using a life-centred design toolkit to research and plan an action to help address a sustainability or climate emergency issue of their choice.
This course, along with several others on topics such as understanding the weather, using systems thinking to tackle the planetary crises, and teaching climate and sustainability in primary schools, forms part of a growing collection aimed at educating the wider public. With some created in partnership with EIT Food and Royal Meteorological Society, these courses are a practical and effective way for the University to demonstrate its commitment to spreading awareness of environmental issues and what can be done about them.
