Many of our <\/span><\/span><\/span>courses\u00a0<\/span><\/span>are <\/span><\/span><\/span>tailored to support prospective, <\/span>incoming<\/span>\u00a0and current\u00a0<\/span>UoR<\/span> students at important milestones in their academic<\/span><\/span>, from thinking about applying and transition to university-level study<\/span><\/span>\u00a0through to\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>blended\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>learning<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>department<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0modules.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Supporting incoming students<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We have created a collection of courses to support\u00a0application and\u00a0transition to University of Reading.\u00a0This\u00a0includes courses to support with the entry process including preparing for interviews, help students prepare for university life and academic study.\u00a0This successful collection has become a core part of the Undergraduate journey and a fully embedded offering from 30 Departments, the Admissions and Outreach Team, and Study Advice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Students who have completed these courses have reported benefits that span their time at university and <\/span>beyond.\u00a0<\/span>Our evaluation surveys<\/span><\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Study Smar<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>t,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>which helps new students transition into university-level\u00a0<\/span>learning, <\/span><\/span><\/span>found<\/span>\u00a0that incoming students felt welcome, part of the\u00a0<\/span>UoR<\/span>\u00a0community and more confident studying at university<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe online course team are an exceptional mix of individuals who are both creative and have a wealth knowledge regarding student learning. Working with them on Study Smart, has enabled us to put together a successful course which has engaging activities, videos and interactive elements. They ask probing questions, offer creative solutions and demonstrate their deep knowledge of pedagogic principles of online learning. It has been a true pleasure working with them to ensure we offer an effective online transition course, which students truly value and we, in Study Advice, are proud of.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of our external facing online courses are designed to add value for our students by providing a compulsary\u00a0introductory blended learning resource for key modules (e.g.,\u00a0Small and Mighty: Introduction to\u00a0Microbiology<\/a> and\u202fBegin Robotics<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also courses which have been designed as an\u00a0additional\u00a0resource to support students taking the University\u2019s RED\u00a0Global Engagement<\/a> and\u00a0Sustainable Action Awards<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWorking with the Online Courses team has been invaluable for the RED Awards.\u00a0 The FutureLearn courses have been pivotal in supporting students to complete the RED Awards as they can be accessed when and where they choose. The reflections they submit as part of the Awards demonstrate the depth of learning they achieve, with resulting actions impacting both the student and the wider community. The team have been super helpful in providing updated links for our webpages to ensure that students can easily navigate the resources and gain their digital certificates which are key evidence of their training for future employers.”<\/span><\/p>\n
