This can help determine originality and be used in formative assessment to assist students&#8217; understanding of academic integrity. When setting up a Turnitin Assignment, the option exists to generate a Similarity Report for the submission. Turnitin will compare work against:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Internet pages and archived internet data<\/li>\n<li>Previously submitted student assignments (from UK institutions that use Turnitin)<\/li>\n<li>Subscription periodicals, journals, and publications. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ithenticate.com\/content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Publishers partnered with Turnitin<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The comparison it produces\u00a0is called a\u00a0<strong>Similarity Report.<\/strong>\u00a0This document details the matches made\u00a0between a submitted assignment\u00a0and the online sources it was checked against.<\/p>\n<p>At the discretion of the instructor, students can\u00a0view the Similarity Reports for their own submissions on Turnitin.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Please note:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Turnitin does not determine if work is\u00a0plagiarised. The\u00a0judgement about whether a student has plagiarised still lies with the academic.
