This includes providing them with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accessible and inclusive live online sessions (where delivered).<\/li>\n<li>Digitally accessible learning materials and activities (including in your Blackboard Course).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some students declare disabilities, whilst some prefer to work and access resources in different ways. It is essential that consideration of this is factored into planning learning experiences and creating digital learning resources.<\/p>\n<p>Accessibility in digitally enabled learning refers to designing educational resources and experiences that are easily accessed and understood by ALL students. This is crucial for fostering an equitable learning experience for everyone and is at the heart of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sitesd.reading.ac.uk\/inclusive-teaching-and-learning\/\">University\u2019s strategy<\/a>, its policies on and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/digital-accessibility\/digital-accessibility-section\/digital-accessibility-policy\">Digital Accessibility Policy <\/a>and in the University\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/engaging-everyone\/ee-home.aspx\">Curriculum Framework (Engaging Everyone strand)<\/a>. Fostering proactive inclusion in your module is not just about ensuring that your learning materials are accessible &#8211; you should also consider how you frame resources, signpost content, and diversify materials to create relevant, authentic learning experiences for your students.<\/p>\n<p>Follow these recommendations to help ensure your Blackboard Course is accessible:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the Blackboard Course Template and associated guidance.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure your Blackboard Course materials are accessible:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle\">\n<li>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/getting-started-with-blackboard-ally\/\">Blackboard ALLY<\/a> to check and improve the accessibility of content in your Course.<\/li>\n<li>When creating new files to upload to your course (PowerPoint, Word Documents, etc.), use the automatic accessibility checks and follow the guidance on creating accessible content (see: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/digital-accessibility\/resources\">Digital Accessibility Resources<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>When creating video content, use <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/yuja-accessibility\/\">YuJa\u2019s accessibility guidance<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure your students know what is expected of them and provide clear instructions, especially in relation to online activities and assessments.<\/li>\n<li>Provide specific and meaningful titles for your course content: make sure the names or titles for Documents, Tests, or any other types of content are clear and meaningful.<\/li>\n<li>Let your students know about the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support-students\/blackboard-ally-getting-started-with-alternative-accessible-formats\/\">automatic alternative content formats<\/a> available to them in the Blackboard Course<\/li>\n<li>Ensure you give students extra time \u00a0in line with their reasonable adjustments as advised by Disability Advice Service (DAS) using\u00a0 the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/extra-time-accommodations\/\">Accommodations function<\/a> in Blackboard<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Provide accessible live online sessions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Online sessions may present barriers or challenges for some students. To minimise these barriers, it is important to consider and design accessible and inclusive session by including interaction and\u00a0by providing support before, during, and after your session.
