The aim is to make learners feel like part of an <strong>active learning community<\/strong> centered around a main hub; the Blackboard module pages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The following tips will help maintain your presence in Blackboard and engage students throughout the term.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What practical steps can I take?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">IMPORTANT: Ensure communication is provided asynchronously<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, where possible, in addition to scheduled teaching and learning activities. You could use the open room in Collaborate to facilitate this.<\/span><\/li><li data-aria-posinset=\"10\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Set up a filter in outlook to gather module queries, set aside a regular time slot to deal with them. It positions the Blackboard module as a live, evolving platform and helps students pace their engagement with material.<\/span><\/p><ul style=\"font-weight: 400\"><li data-aria-posinset=\"7\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a module full of pre-loaded content can seem overwhelming and impersonal,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">continuous content updates throughout the week can cause student anxiety that something has been 'missed' or demotivate students who can never 'keep up' with additions.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">*Screencasts<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">cannot be 'scheduled' in advance<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(when hosted in the university video sharing platform\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/stream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Stream<\/a>).<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0However, you can indicate suggested viewing times by\u202f<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/2020\/06\/17\/ms-stream-embed-content-in-blackboard\/\"><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">embedding recordings<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fin weekly Blackboard folders. You can also 'hide' the Blackboard module menu link<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\"><i>'Microsoft Stream' (please note this does not prevent students logging into Stream directly).
