{"id":7266,"date":"2020-10-02T09:10:18","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T09:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?page_id=7266"},"modified":"2025-10-15T09:42:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T09:42:55","slug":"digital-quizzes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/digital-quizzes\/","title":{"rendered":"Student response apps (quizzing\/polling\/wordclouds)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What are student response apps?<\/h2>\n<p>Quizzing\/polling apps may be referred to as Student Response, Audience Response or Classroom Response Systems.<\/p>\n<p>They can help you to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>check\u00a0knowledge retention, by testing students on topics live in the moment.<\/li>\n<li>ascertain student feelings and opinions, to create discussion and debate<\/li>\n<li>motivate students\/groups to participate, particularly where scoring or leader boards are used<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They are particularly helpful in delivering team-based learning.\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">You may wish to translate a team-based learning activity into a digital quiz or poll\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to help students collaborate more effectively (i.e. so everyone can see the activity on their own device, as an alternative to paper copies).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What University technologies can I use to for collecting live student responses?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><strong>Scenario 1: scheduled teaching <em>&#8211; display results on a board<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/toolsandtechnologies\/teaching-with-ms-forms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Forms<\/a> can be used to collect live student responses during scheduled teaching. This is particularly useful if requiring display of questions\/answers on a board. Choose from a variety of question types and embed the question set into a PowerPoint slide.
