Having a simple and intuitive content menu sets the tone for your students&#8217; experience when navigating your Blackboard module.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"none\">Curating a module structure<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11277 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2022\/09\/standard.jpg\" alt=\"Blackboard standard module menu\" width=\"194\" height=\"513\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2022\/09\/standard.jpg 194w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2022\/09\/standard-113x300.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Use menu headings to organise the module content and activity logically.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Keep the menu titles short or to a single word<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Limit the number of menu headings<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Your menu should reflect the structure of your course and complement the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/P9UENj-2ah\">organisation of your folders and content<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The menu should be used for general headings, and a clear and\u00a0contextualised folder structure should be used within content areas to divide topics for your learners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Each menu item should be distinct and obvious. Students should be able to understand the difference between each content area and what information or materials will be inside without clicking on them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"none\">Headers &amp; Dividers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">You can complement the folder structure of your module further by using headers and dividers to organise your menu into sections.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As with the module as a whole, try to avoid having too many headings and ensure that dividers make meaningful breaks between sections, rather than between each menu item.\u00a0A well-organised content menu should not need headers at all and it should be noted that headers can look like broken links to a first-time visitor to a module.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"none\">Automatic menu items<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Your menu\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">has several automatically created areas that should not be edited, including two which are necessary for T&amp;L Technologies integration:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Assessment \u2013 assignments created in RISIS appear here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">YuJa \u2013 a link to your module&#8217;s Channel and further links to support materials are located here.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Avoid creating menu items that have similar names to these, such as &#8220;Assessment Information&#8221;, and instead use these pre-made areas for similar content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Do not rename these areas, as it could cause issues with integration between Blackboard, RISIS and Stream.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The content menu on the left-hand side of your Backboard course is the primary navigation tool for your students.
