The ABC approach enables academic teams to rapidly create a visual \u2018storyboard\u2019 outlining the type and sequence of learning activities (both online and offline) required to meet the course\u2019s learning outcomes, aligned to the university <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/curriculum-framework\/cf-home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Curriculum Framework<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UoR colleagues discuss their experience of the ABC approach:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; Students can be invited at discretion of the programme lead.<\/li><li>Workshop participants are required to work collaboratively in a designated module team. Groups of 2-5 work well (CQSD request design teams are decided and communicated prior to the workshop).<\/li><li>Each module team focuses on <strong>one module. <\/strong>There are also opportunities for module teams to share their designs to explore how modules form a coherent integrated whole.<\/li><li>The session can be used to review existing modules and\/or scope new ones.<\/li><li>Prior to the session, <strong>all participants must be familiar with the module description and Learning Outcomes, and are advised to undertake a short, self-directed review of these<\/strong> (although teams may wish to continue adapting\/amending Learning Outcomes after participating in the ABC workshop).<\/li><li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\">The <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-21649898_4\">ABC Session plan (online)<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px\"> and accompanying slides can be viewed prior to booking a session. The comparisons can be quite telling, do you notice lots more acquisition going on now than before, and a lot less collaboration\/discussion?<\/li><li>For a more involved exercise, use an adapted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-21651094_4\">ABC online storyboard spreadsheet <\/a>to quickly prototype your module structure, make design adjustments and inform your decisions about the structure of your module.<\/li><li>UCL provide a free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/learning-designer\/\">Learning Designer<\/a> service that draws on the original ABC learning types.
