{"id":8627,"date":"2021-05-10T12:40:07","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T12:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?page_id=8627"},"modified":"2026-01-19T10:43:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T10:43:12","slug":"blackboard-threshold-standard","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/blackboard-threshold-standard\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Threshold Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>What are Threshold Standards ?<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The threshold standards are aligned to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/curriculum-framework\/cf-home.aspx\">University Curriculum Framework<\/a> pedagogic principles and intended to be a <strong>clear set of practical guidelines that describe how to manage and structure online learning materials and activities in Blackboard modules<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They can be used by <strong>Module Convenors<\/strong> and <strong>Programme teams<\/strong> to design and evaluate their modules against recommended components needed to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide students with a consistent and quality online learning experience.<\/li>\n<li>An accessible well-presented module with a clear structure that is easy to navigate.<\/li>\n<li>Make effective use of the features and tools in Blackboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The standards are flexible and designed to be applicable across disciplines and do not mandate a specific layout or approach. The standards are evidence based; drawing on sector good practice within blended and online learning, and web design. They also ensure legal requirements are met and institutional policies are applied. For example the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/accessibility-requirements-for-public-sector-websites-and-apps\">UK website accessibility legislation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The University\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/TEL-Support-Staff\/how-to-use-the-course-template\/\"><strong>B<\/strong><strong>la<\/strong><strong>ckboard default module template<\/strong><\/a> aligns with the standards and is a useful reference point.<\/li>\n<li>Our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/blackboard-learn-help-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blackboard guides<\/a> <\/strong>have instructions on setting up and using the features and tools referred to in the standards.<\/li>\n<li>Conduct a self or peer review of your Blackboard module\/s using the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/blackboard-threshold-standards\/blackboard-module-review-form\/\"> Blackboard module review form<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>1.
