{"id":2280,"date":"2016-12-09T16:45:43","date_gmt":"2016-12-09T16:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=2280"},"modified":"2016-12-09T16:45:43","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T16:45:43","slug":"suggested-solutions-if-you-encounter-any-issues-when-marking-in-turnitin-feedback-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/12\/09\/suggested-solutions-if-you-encounter-any-issues-when-marking-in-turnitin-feedback-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"Suggested solutions if you encounter any issues when marking in Turnit..."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here are some suggestions for staff marking student work using Turnitin Feedback Studio, in case you encounter any technical issues.<\/p>\n<p>Very occasionally, you might find that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you are not able to save comments<\/li>\n<li>you are not able to open previously saved comments<\/li>\n<li>the Feedback Studio screen freezes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you do experience any of these problems, we believe that the simplest way to resolve them is to <strong>switch back to the old Turnitin interface, &#8216;Turnitin Classic&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There is a link to do this\u00a0at the bottom of the Feedback Studio window.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/08\/return-to-Turnitin-Classic.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1539\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/08\/return-to-Turnitin-Classic.png\" alt=\"return to Turnitin Classic\" width=\"439\" height=\"79\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(for more detail see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-5147256_4\" target=\"_blank\">Feedback Studio User Guide<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You may also be able to avoid problems with the Feedback Studio by <strong>clearing your browser cache<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><b>IE11<\/b><br \/>\n<a class=\"a0 b1 c0 d0 e0 f10 h11 i11 j4 k2 l1\" href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/17438\/windows-internet-explorer-view-delete-browsing-history\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/17438\/windows-internet-explorer-view-delete-browsing-history<\/a><br \/>\n<b>Chrome<\/b><br \/>\n<a class=\"a0 b1 c0 d0 e0 f10 h11 i11 j4 k2 l1\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/32050?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/support.google.com\/accounts\/answer\/32050?hl=en<\/a><br \/>\n<b>Firefox<\/b><br \/>\n<a class=\"a0 b1 c0 d0 e0 f10 h11 i11 j4 k2 l1\" href=\"https:\/\/support.mozilla.org\/en-US\/kb\/how-clear-firefox-cache\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/support.mozilla.org\/en-US\/kb\/how-clear-firefox-cache<\/a><br \/>\n<b>Safari<\/b><br \/>\n<a class=\"a0 b1 c0 d0 e0 f10 h11 i11 j4 k2 l1\" href=\"https:\/\/kb.wisc.edu\/page.php?id=45060\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/kb.wisc.edu\/page.php?id=45060<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, these issues may be related to Turnitin&#8217;s <strong>60-minute timeout<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A Turnitin user session will not remain active indefinitely&#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong>NOTE: The issue described below has now been resolved by an update to the way the 60 minute timeout is detected. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p6kHTL-Bl\">See update to timeout settings<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If the Turnitin window in Blackboard Learn (see image below) does not detect user activity, the user session will automatically timeout after 60 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/12\/Turnitin-Assignment-Imbox.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2282\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/12\/Turnitin-Assignment-Imbox.png\" alt=\"Turnitin Assignment Inbox\" width=\"1134\" height=\"431\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"sectioncentredmedia\"><\/div>\n<p>Therefore, if you have spent almost an hour on marking a single paper, we would recommend that you\u00a0close the marking window, return to the Turnitin\u00a0assignment inbox and refresh it, before the 60 minute period runs out.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that typing into a dialog box or scrolling through a submission in the Feedback Studio is not recognised as user activity. Again, we would advise staff to close the Feedback Studio window between scripts &#8211; and within the 1 hour window &#8211; to ensure work is not lost.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that it is also possible for the session to time out if you have\u00a0multiple Turnitin windows (or tabs) open at once. The timer will be running for each Turnitin window or tab you have\u00a0open.
