{"id":3786,"date":"2018-05-08T11:50:10","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T11:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=3786"},"modified":"2018-05-08T11:50:10","modified_gmt":"2018-05-08T11:50:10","slug":"blackboard-course-rollover-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2018\/05\/08\/blackboard-course-rollover-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Course Rollover 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Creating and populating Blackboard courses for the 2019-19 Academic Year: advance notice of schedule and actions required.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>The essentials<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Course rollover<\/a> is the annual process whereby Blackboard courses from the current academic year are copied for use in the next academic year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course rollover for 2018-19 will take place on Saturday 30th\u00a0June 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackboard will be unavailable while course copying takes place, approximately 08:00 \u2013 17:00 BST.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rollover this year will follow a very similar pattern to in Summer 2017.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">The default is that any RISIS module or programme<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">which was used in Blackboard in the current academic year (i.e. in 2017-18)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">and is scheduled to run again in the new academic year (i.e. in 2018-19)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">will be automatically copied forward as part of Course Rollover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of Blackboard courses fall into this category.<\/p>\n<p>If a course you are teaching or supporting meets these criteria, and you are happy for the 2017-18 course to be copied forward, NO ACTION IS REQUIRED at this time.<\/p>\n<p>Module Convenors will be automatically enrolled onto the 2018-19 Blackboard course, regardless of whether<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the module ran in 2017-18<\/li>\n<li>a Blackboard course copy has been requested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Exceptions<\/h1>\n<p>ACTION IS REQUIRED in the following cases \u2013 click on the link for further details.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#optout\">I\u2019m redesigning my Blackboard course and would like to start from scratch<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Module Convenors can choose to opt out of course copy<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#norun\">My RISIS Module did not run in 2017-18<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>\u2026but I would like content to be copied from a previous Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#newcode\">I am teaching a Module with a new RISIS code<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>\u2026and would like content to be copied from an existing Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#sh\">I want to use a Blackboard Shared Course<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>We are introducing some changes this year\u00a0so please read this section carefully if you currently use a Shared Course in Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p>We will be distinguishing between<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Merged Courses<br \/>\n<\/strong>Used when you have a set of closely related modules, and you want to administer them as a single course in Blackboard.<br \/>\nA Merged Course always <strong><em>replaces<\/em><\/strong> the individual Blackboard courses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supplementary Courses<\/strong><br \/>\nUsed when you want a shared Blackboard space <strong><em>in addition<\/em><\/strong> to individual RISIS modules or programmes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#nr\">I use a Non-RISIS course in Blackboard<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Further information<\/h1>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Full details of Course Rollover 2018<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Course Copy and Opt-out request forms are currently being updated.
