{"id":3858,"date":"2018-06-20T09:41:26","date_gmt":"2018-06-20T09:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=3858"},"modified":"2018-06-20T09:41:26","modified_gmt":"2018-06-20T09:41:26","slug":"course-rollover-2018-what-do-i-need-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2018\/06\/20\/course-rollover-2018-what-do-i-need-to-do\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Rollover 2018 &#8211; what do I need to do?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Annual Course Rollover<\/a> takes place on Saturday 30th\u00a0June.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackboard downtime will be required, approximately 08:00 \u2013 17:00 BST.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All the relevant forms have been updated, and can be accessed from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/vle-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/internal\/vle-support\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>No action is required&#8230;<\/h1>\n<p>if you are responsible for a RISIS module or programme<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>which was used in Blackboard in the current academic year (i.e. in 2017-18)<\/li>\n<li>is scheduled to run again in the new academic year (i.e. in 2018-19)<\/li>\n<li>and you are happy for the 2017-18 Blackboard course to be copied forward<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this case, the 2017-18 course will be automatically copied forward as part of Course Rollover.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Action is required&#8230;<\/h1>\n<p>in the following cases (click on the link for further details)<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#optout\">I\u2019m redesigning my Blackboard course and would like to start from scratch<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Module Convenors can choose to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/OptOutCourseCopy\">Opt Out of Course Rollover<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Why might I choose this option?<\/h3>\n<p>Last year\u00a0the\u00a0academics who\u00a0chose\u00a0to opt out of rollover were taking over as new Module Convenors, and wanted to reorganise their Blackboard sites<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to make them easier for students to navigate<\/li>\n<li>to better reflect the way that they planned to deliver the module.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year one entire School and one Department have chosen not to have their Blackboard courses copied forward. This is so they can respond to student feedback by introducing a standard course menu and navigation across all of their courses.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#norun\">My RISIS Module did not run in 2017-18<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u2026but I would like content to be copied from a previous Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#newcode\">I am teaching a Module with a new RISIS code<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u2026and would like content to be copied from an existing Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/#sh\">I want to use a Blackboard Shared Course<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We are introducing some changes to shared spaces in Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p>Full details can be found\u00a0here: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/merged-courses-and-supplementary-courses-formerly-shared-courses\/\"><strong>Merged and Supplementary Courses<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you need a shared Blackboard course which <strong>replaces<\/strong> two or more RISIS modules, then IT can create a <strong>Merged Course<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/newmerged\/\"><strong>Request a new Merged Course<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>or use the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/CopyRequest\">Course Copy Request Form<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>if you wish to copy your\u00a0existing\u00a0Shared Course to a 2018-19 Merged Course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you need a shared Blackboard course for use <strong>in addition<\/strong> to a number of RISIS modules or Programmes, then IT can create a <strong>Supplementary Course<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/closed\/VLE-Support\/VLE-SupportStaff\/vle-bbsharedcourse.aspx\"><strong>Request a new Supplementary Course<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>or use the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/CopyRequest\">Course Copy Request Form<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>if you wish to copy your\u00a0existing\u00a0Shared Course to a 2018-19 Supplementary \u00a0Course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Please note: Supplementary Courses should\u00a0not be\u00a0used to deliver summative\u00a0assessment, as this is not supported by the forthcoming Blackboard-RISIS integration.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The deadline&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>for submitting any requests in time for Rollover is the close of play on <strong>Tuesday 26<sup>th<\/sup> June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you have any queries please check the more detailed information on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Annual Rollover<\/a><\/strong> on this site.<\/p>\n<p>If you still need further advice, please log a call with <a href=\"mailto:it@reading.ac.uk\">it@reading.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Annual Course Rollover takes place on Saturday 30th\u00a0June.
