{"id":4204,"date":"2018-08-29T15:11:33","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T15:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=4204"},"modified":"2018-08-29T15:11:33","modified_gmt":"2018-08-29T15:11:33","slug":"new-look-blackboard-live-this-friday-info-for-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2018\/08\/29\/new-look-blackboard-live-this-friday-info-for-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"New-look Blackboard live this Friday (info for staff)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blackboard will look a little different from Friday morning (31 August), and there are a couple of things you will need to do before logging in for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>As you may remember from&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2018\/06\/28\/new-look-blackboard-coming-september-2018\/\">previous communications<\/a>, we&#8217;ve been working, in response to staff and student feedback, to improve Blackboard\u2019s look, feel, accessibility, responsiveness and the experience of our staff and students when using it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What will I need to do before logging in for the first time? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Edit 22\/09\/18: it should no longer be necessary to clear browsing data before logging on to Blackboard<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Before logging in, you will need to clear the browsing data from the web browser you use, e.g. Chrome, Firefox. Don\u2019t worry if you don\u2019t know what this means or how to do it \u2013 just click for guidance on the link below for the browser you use:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/chrome\/answer\/2392709?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&amp;hl=en\">Chrome<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.mozilla.org\/en-US\/kb\/how-clear-firefox-cache\">Firefox<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/guide\/safari\/clear-your-browsing-history-sfri47acf5d6\/mac\">Safari<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/help\/10607\/microsoft-edge-view-delete-browser-history\">Edge<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*You are advised not to use the Internet Explorer browser when using Blackboard*<\/p>\n<p>Mobile browsers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/HT201265\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safari on iOS<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/chrome\/answer\/2392709?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&amp;hl=en&amp;oco=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chrome on Android<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/chrome\/answer\/2392709?co=GENIE.Platform%3DiOS&amp;hl=en&amp;oco=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chrome on iOS<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/uk\/support\/mobile-devices\/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-history-or-cookies-on-the-internet-browser-on-galaxy-device\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samsung Internet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How will it look?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The new log-in screen will present like this (use your university user-name and password to log-in):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2018\/08\/New_Login_Page-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4207\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2018\/08\/New_Login_Page-1.png\" alt=\"Image of new Blackboard log-in page\" width=\"717\" height=\"403\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once logged in,&nbsp;<!--more--> you will find yourself on the <strong>My Blackboard<\/strong> tab (shown below) where you will find your modules, your organisations, relevant announcements and &#8216;Qwickly&#8217; tools (quick ways of doing things on Blackboard, e.g. posting an announcement on several Blackboard modules).&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2018\/08\/New_Staff_View-3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4211\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2018\/08\/New_Staff_View-3.png\" alt=\"Image of new look Blackboard's My Blackboard tab (staff view) \" width=\"718\" height=\"436\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will see your school portal tab and a tab called My Files \u2013 a file-sharing area where you can store documents and share with others inside Blackboard.
