{"id":4608,"date":"2016-01-15T08:53:10","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T08:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=855"},"modified":"2016-01-15T08:53:10","modified_gmt":"2016-01-15T08:53:10","slug":"turnitin-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/01\/15\/turnitin-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Turnitin changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post contains\u00a0news of two recent changes in Turnitin functionality.<\/p>\n<h2>Deleting Turnitin assignments<\/h2>\n<p>We have updated the connector which links our Blackboard system to Turnitin.<\/p>\n<p>As well as minor improvements and bug fixes, this introduces one new piece of functionality:\u00a0the ability to\u00a0delete Turnitin assignments from the Control Panel.<\/p>\n<p>This will be particularly useful on courses where &#8211; probably as a result of course copying in the past &#8211; you can see redundant Turnitin assignments listed in the staff view which are not visible to students, or in the Blackboard Grade Centre.<\/p>\n<h3>To delete a Turnitin assignment<\/h3>\n<p>Go to <strong>Control Panel &gt; Course Tools &gt; Turnitin Assignments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will see a list of all the Turnitin assignments on the course.<\/p>\n<p>On the right-hand side, for each assignment you will see a <strong>Delete Assignment<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/01\/delete_tii_assignment.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-856\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/01\/delete_tii_assignment.png\" alt=\"Delete Turnitin assignment\" width=\"834\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When you click on <strong>Delete Assignment\u00a0<\/strong>you will see a warning message &#8211; do not delete a\u00a0Turnitin\u00a0assignment!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On some courses, you may have what appear to be duplicate assignments.<\/p>\n<p>Before deleting an\u00a0assignment<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>go to <strong>Control Panel &gt; Course Tools &gt; Turnitin Assignments<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>click on the link to go into the assignment<\/li>\n<li>if there are student submissions &#8211; do not delete the assignment<\/li>\n<li>if you are sure this is a redundant assignment, click on the <strong>Edit assignment<\/strong> tab<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-859\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/01\/edit_tii_assignment.png\" alt=\"Edit Turnitin assignment\" width=\"392\" height=\"251\" \/><\/li>\n<li>then\u00a0edit the assignment name &#8211; append OLD or DELETE to the name.<\/li>\n<li>now,\u00a0when you go back to the (possibly very long) list of assignments on your course,\u00a0you will easily be able to identify which assignment(s) to delete.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Downloading papers<\/h2>\n<p>As part of Turnitin maintenance just before Christmas, changes were made to the way staff can download papers from the Turnitin inbox.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You can now download papers from the Turnitin inbox, even if Anonymous Marking is switched on.<\/li>\n<li>When you download a papers in this\u00a0way, students&#8217; names are no longer appended to the filename of the downloaded papers.<br \/>\nThis is the case even on assignments where Anonymous Marking has not been enabled &#8211; the result is that it is very difficult to match downloaded papers with the students who submitted them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Please note, Turnitin have received a great deal of criticism about the way this change was implemented, and our understanding is that the changes may well be reversed in the near future- we will post any updates here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 26\/02\/2016: improvements have now been made &#8211;
