During the last year, however, Google introduced changes which made it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-4653401_4\" target=\"_blank\">impossible to play certain types of media file in Chrome<\/a>.\u00a0In addition, there is a Known Issue in Blackboard which causes MP3 audio files to start playing automatically in Google Chrome, even when the auto-start option has been deselected.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Blackboard release, now installed on our system, gets round these issues by enabling audio and video files to be embedded as HTML5 elements.<\/p>\n<p>This change means that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>MP3 audio files<\/strong> uploaded to Blackboard can be played in any Internet Browser.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MP4 video files<\/strong> uploaded to Blackboard can be played in any Internet Browser.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our guide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/xid-4830957_4\" target=\"_blank\">Uploading and embedding audio and video files into your Blackboard course<\/a>\u00a0provides\u00a0details on how to use the new HTML5 Audio and HTML5 Video options to upload and embed media files, so that they can be played in any browser, on any device.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-919\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/embedded-audio-file.png\" alt=\"embedded audio file\" width=\"393\" height=\"109\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/embedded-video-file1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-921\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/02\/embedded-video-file1.png\" alt=\"embedded video file\" width=\"413\" height=\"297\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please note<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The new functionality is available only for newly-created audio and video links in Blackboard.
