{"id":4628,"date":"2016-06-14T09:31:09","date_gmt":"2016-06-14T09:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=1410"},"modified":"2016-06-14T09:31:09","modified_gmt":"2016-06-14T09:31:09","slug":"blackboard-course-rollover-action-required-for-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/06\/14\/blackboard-course-rollover-action-required-for-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard course rollover: action required for 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Course Rollover<\/a> is the annual process whereby Blackboard courses from the current academic year are copied for use in the next academic year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/06\/2016-17-Calendar.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1413 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/files\/2016\/06\/2016-17-Calendar-300x263.png\" alt=\"2016-17 Calendar\" width=\"300\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Course Rollover is being streamlined this year, so that all of the course copying is carried out over two consecutive weekends:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Standard\u00a0courses<\/strong> which are scheduled in RISIS to run in 2016-17 \u00a0will be rolled forward over the weekend of<strong> 30<sup>th<\/sup> &#8211; 31<sup>st<\/sup> July<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Other courses<\/strong> (e.g. Shared and non-RISIS courses) will be rolled forward over the weekend of <strong>6<sup>th<\/sup> &#8211; 7<sup>th<\/sup> August<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Blackboard will be unavailable to users while this work is being carried out \u2013 exact times tbc.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #d2002e\"><strong>Please see below for actions which you should take to ensure that your courses are correctly rolled forward for use in 2016-17.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Is my course scheduled to be copied? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/Status\" target=\"_blank\">Course Copy Status page<\/a> for a list of all courses which are currently scheduled to be copied forward \u2013 you can use the search box to find your course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your course is listed here, no further action is required to ensure that the course copying takes place. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Standard RISIS courses<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>i.e. Blackboard courses which are directly linked to a single programme or module in RISIS<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you had a Blackboard course (module or programme) linked to RISIS in 2015\/16 and it is scheduled in RISIS to run again in 2016\/17, the course content will be copied<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>automatically<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>as part of Course Rollover.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your course is listed on the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/Status\" target=\"_blank\">Course Copy Status page<\/a><strong> n<\/strong><strong>o further action is required to ensure that the course is copied. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your course is not included on this list, please check with your course administrator that the programme\/module has been correctly scheduled for 2016\/17 in RISIS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Modules with a new code in RISIS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If your module is getting a new code for 2016-17, and you want to copy across your current course content, please check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/Status\" target=\"_blank\">Course Copy Status page<\/a> to see if the old and new codes are already listed there (e.g. we already know that AP2EM3-15-6A needs to be copied to AP2EM4-16-7A).<\/p>\n<p>If your module is not listed there, please ask your course administrator to enter this information on RISIS by Friday 1<sup>st<\/sup> July.<\/p>\n<p>After 1<sup>st<\/sup> July, please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/CopyRequest\" target=\"_blank\">submit a request<\/a>\u00a0for content and staff enrolments to be copied from the current Blackboard course to the re-coded 2016-17 Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Shared courses<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>Shared courses group together enrolments from a number of RISIS programmes or modules, and have a Blackboard course code ending in SH.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Shared courses are not automatically rolled forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you wish your 2015-16 Shared course to be rolled-over for the next academic year, you need to request this using the\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/CopyRequest\" target=\"_blank\">Course Copy Request Form<\/a><strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under &#8216;Type of Course Copy&#8217; select\u00a0<strong>Shared -&gt; Shared<\/strong>, and specify the RISIS programmes or modules from which the Shared course enrolments will be drawn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The deadline for this information to be included in the annual Course Rollover is Friday 15th July.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Non-RISIS courses<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>Typically these are used for the delivery of academic activities which are not recorded in RISIS, and have a Blackboard course code ending in NR.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Non-RISIS courses are not automatically rolled forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you wish your 2015-16 Non-RISIS course to be rolled-over for the next academic year, you need to request this using the\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/CopyRequest\" target=\"_blank\">Course Copy Request Form<\/a><strong>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under &#8216;Type of Course Copy&#8217; select\u00a0<strong>Single -&gt; Single<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The deadline for this information to be included in the annual Course Rollover is Friday 15th July.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Which parts of my course will be copied?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Please note \u2013 there are some changes from previous years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In particular, Turnitin and Blackboard assignments will NOT be copied forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Course Rollover\u00a0blog page<\/a> for further details.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Further Help<\/h2>\n<p>Please read the information on this blog and, where appropriate, speak to administrative staff in your School for clarification.
