{"id":4636,"date":"2016-08-18T09:11:05","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T09:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=1544"},"modified":"2016-08-18T09:11:05","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T09:11:05","slug":"blackboard-course-rollover-is-now-complete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/08\/18\/blackboard-course-rollover-is-now-complete\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard Course Rollover is now complete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-annual-rollover\/\">Blackboard Course Rollover<\/a> for 2016-17 is now complete.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All course copying has taken place for<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>courses which ran in Blackboard in 2015-16 and are scheduled in RISIS for 2016-17<\/li>\n<li>Shared and non-RISIS courses, where this was requested by staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, for 2016-17 courses created through the rollover process<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>staff enrolments (Instructors and Teaching Assistants) have been copied forward<\/li>\n<li>steps have been taken to ensure that courses have a completely clean Grade Centre, with no Blackboard or Turnitin assignments copied from previous years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The final step in the rollover process \u2013 deletion of Turnitin assignments in copied courses \u2013 was carried out successfully last night, using a tool developed for us by Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p>You are now free to start <strong>preparing your new courses for the forthcoming academic year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This preparation should include ensuring that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-content-delivery\/\">course materials<\/a>\u00a0such as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>module \/ programme handbooks<\/li>\n<li>assignment briefs<\/li>\n<li>lecture and seminar material<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>are up-to-date and, where necessary, revising the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support\/blackboard-support-staff-course-management\/\">course menu and structure<\/a> to ensure that students can easily navigate the site.<\/p>\n<p>You will also need to ensure that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-assessment\/\">Assignment submission points<\/a>\u00a0(Turnitin or Blackboard assignments) are created with appropriate dates and other settings.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-assessment\/blackboard-support-staff-tests-and-surveys\/\">Tests<\/a>\u00a0are made available to students with appropriate dates and other settings.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/libguides.reading.ac.uk\/reading-lists\/staff\/blackboard\">Talis\u00a0reading list<\/a>\u00a0links are updated for the new academic year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Help with all of these activities can be found on the TEL blog.<\/p>\n<p>The TEL team will also be running a series of staff training sessions from September onwards \u2013 see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/cqsd\/TandLEvents\/cqsd-televents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">CQSD website<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<h3>Brand new courses for 2016-17<\/h3>\n<p>Courses which have not run before, and which are scheduled in RISIS, will now have been set up in Blackboard. You can use this IT form to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/closed\/VLE-Support\/VLE-SupportStaff\/vle-bbcourserequest.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>request enrolment on a course<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2013 or see staff in your new Student Support Centre.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Additional course copy requests<\/h3>\n<p>For any further course copy requests, outside the rollover process, please use this form to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/CopyRequest\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>request a course copy<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can see a list of completed and pending course copies on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/blackboard\/bbcopy\/Home\/Status\" target=\"_blank\">Copy Status<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that, from now on, course copies will exclude the Grade Centre. This means that, following a course copy, on the new course you will need to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>delete any copied Turnitin Assignments<\/li>\n<li>set up new Turnitin or Blackboard\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-assessment\/\">Assignment submission points<\/a>\u00a0with appropriate dates and other settings.<\/li>\n<li>deploy\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/support-blackboard\/blackboard-support-staff-assessment\/blackboard-support-staff-tests-and-surveys\/\">Tests<\/a>\u00a0so that they are available to students with appropriate dates and other settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Student Enrolments<\/h3>\n<p>New students will not have access to Blackboard until they have completed the enrolment process &#8211; so, for most students, late\u00a0September.<\/p>\n<p>Returning students: the scripts to transfer enrolments from RISIS to Blackboard are\u00a0currently being updated. These scripts will be enabled late August \/ early September, at which point students will be automatically enrolled on Part 2 and 3 modules\u00a0\u00a0in Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update 7th September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Student course enrolments are now flowing automatically from RISIS to Blackboard for all courses &#8211; including Shared Courses &#8211; and organisations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blackboard Course Rollover for 2016-17 is now complete.
