In line with the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/accessibility-requirements-for-public-sector-websites-and-apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">changes in regulations governing the accessibility of websites and apps<\/a>, this year&#8217;s event was themed &#8216;Access All Areas&#8217;. A small number of\u00a0 UoR TEL and Digital Technology Services (DTS) staff attended the conference which has become a key event in the Blackboard community&#8217;s calendar. Among useful sessions on the two day\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/community.dur.ac.uk\/lt.team\/conference\/durbbu_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">programme<\/a>\u00a0this year were: digital accessibility and <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/2018\/08\/15\/getting-started-with-blackboard-ally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blackboard&#8217;s accessibility Ally tool;\u00a0<\/a>assessment rubrics; experiences of the new Blackboard Learn Ultra interface; using Padlet for collaborative and inclusive learning (including the use of an escape room activity!); use of MS Teams, and using learning capture to support active learning.<\/p>\n<p>Katie Piatt (University of Brighton) used the <a href=\"https:\/\/nearpod.com\/international?utm_expid=.0dkcszR9SP2jr9OT7IpJhA.1&amp;utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nearpod tool<\/a> to enable the audience to participate\u00a0 in her keynote speech about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/news\/learning-to-play-playing-to-learn-the-rise-of-playful-learning-in-he-25-feb-2016-inform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">playful learning<\/a> in relation to\u00a0 Blackboard. Katie shared how Brighton has achieved positive student engagement and feedback about the use of Blackboard in T &amp; L by including fun, topical, interactive activities and using changing images to keep the look of modules fresh.<\/p>\n<p>Key messages for our staff:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">There was positive feedback about the new Blackboard Learn Ultra interface (on our road-map for Blackboard here at Reading);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Blackboard will be improving the data and analytics available to staff to help the monitor student activity;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beelinereader.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beelline reader<\/a> will be available via the Ally tool within Blackboard as an alternative format to help make on-screen reading easier.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Andy Turner (TEL) and Jonathan Rajadurai (DTS) presented about our work on electronic management of assessment and the journey of the grade through the full assessment cycle . Daniel Barker and myself (TEL)\u00a0 shared our experience at Reading of rolling out the new <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/2018\/08\/15\/getting-started-with-blackboard-ally\/\">Blackboard Ally accessibility tool<\/a> and supporting staff to make use of it\u00a0to help provide accessible content.
