{"id":7389,"date":"2020-10-15T09:53:25","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T09:53:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=7389"},"modified":"2020-10-15T10:01:17","modified_gmt":"2020-10-15T10:01:17","slug":"are-you-deleting-stream-groups-by-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2020\/10\/15\/are-you-deleting-stream-groups-by-accident\/","title":{"rendered":"Are you deleting Stream groups by accident?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>This post is useful for academics and professional staff who use MS Stream\u00a0with Blackboard modules.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Removing\u00a0a Group in Stream \u2013 Please don\u2019t\u00a0click\u00a0Delete!<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Staff are inadvertently deleting\u00a0Groups\u00a0in\u00a0Stream\u00a0when\u00a0they\u00a0are trying to\u00a0prevent\u00a0themselves from\u00a0seeing\u00a0unwanted Groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do not click\u00a0\u2018Delete\u2019\u00a0for a\u00a0Group in Stream<\/strong>\u00a0that is connected to a Blackboard course.\u00a0This:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>deletes the Group\u00a0entirely<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>removes students\u00a0from the Group, so that they\u00a0lose all access to videos\u00a0<\/strong>that\u00a0had been shared with the\u00a0Group.<\/li>\n<li><strong>prevents academics\u00a0from adding permissions<\/strong>for new videos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: DTS can restore the Group and permissions\u00a0to the videos\u00a0but\u00a0the automated feed can take 24 hours to\u00a0return\u00a0access.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do not ever select this option!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2020\/10\/15\/are-you-deleting-stream-groups-by-accident\/stream-group-delete\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7391\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7391 alignleft\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2020\/10\/stream-group-delete-217x300.png\" alt=\"Image showing not to delete Stream group\" width=\"217\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2020\/10\/stream-group-delete-217x300.png 217w, https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2020\/10\/stream-group-delete.png 315w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 217px) 100vw, 217px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2020\/10\/15\/are-you-deleting-stream-groups-by-accident\/stream-group-delete2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7393\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2020\/10\/stream-group-delete2-300x91.png\" alt=\"Image of screen showing not to delete Stream Group\" width=\"442\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>How do I\u00a0remove\u00a0a\u00a0Stream\u00a0Group I don\u2019t need\u00a0to see?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Membership of\u00a0a\u00a0Stream Group is\u00a0based entirely on\u00a0who is enrolled on the\u00a0Blackboard course.\u00a0The only way you can remove yourself from a Group\u00a0in Stream\u00a0that is connected to a Blackboard\u00a0course\u00a0is to\u00a0set your\u00a0enrolment\u00a0in the Blackboard course\u00a0to\u00a0\u2018unavailable\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>:\u00a0This\u00a0will also remove you from the Blackboard course\u00a0and you cannot add yourself back, so only use this\u00a0if you\u00a0also\u00a0no longer need to be on the Blackboard course.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the steps in this\u00a0guide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel-support\/2018\/07\/31\/blackboard-removing-yourself-and-colleagues-from-courses\/\">Removing yourself and colleagues from a Blackboard course<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is the best way to find\u00a0the Stream\u00a0Group\u00a0I need?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you have a long list of groups, the easiest way to\u00a0identify\u00a0the\u00a0relevant\u00a0Group\u00a0for your Blackboard course\u00a0is to\u00a0go into Blackboard,\u00a0click on the Microsoft Stream menu item and click the link to\u00a0\u2018Open Stream to view videos for this module\u2019.
