All were participants in our personal capture \/ screencasting pilot project 2018\/19 and discussed their experience of producing screencasts and engaging students with content:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using screencasts with large cohorts and international students<\/li>\n<li>Creating recordings using a Mac<\/li>\n<li>Ideas for screencast formats and presentation styles<\/li>\n<li>Advanced screencasting tips<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A recording of the event, and examples of speaker screencasts, can be accessed via the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/online-teaching-toolkits\/making-screencasts-for-tl\/what-type-of-screencasts-can-i-make\/\">TEL toolkit: What screencasts can I make?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event <strong>highlighted the importance<\/strong> of:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Creating <strong>conversational, personable<\/strong> recording material that gives students a sense of \u2018you\u2019. Our speakers recommended:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>turning on your webcam<\/strong> when recording (if possible) as students like to \u2018see\u2019 and hear their lecturers when discussing slides or other on-screen visuals.<\/li>\n<li>using <strong>prompts to guide speaking<\/strong>, but avoiding an overly \u2018scripted\u2019 narration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. Keeping recordings <strong>concise and chunked<\/strong>, to maintain student interest and help students to <strong>digest\/group content<\/strong> when reviewing videos.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.
