{"id":904,"date":"2016-02-05T15:50:51","date_gmt":"2016-02-05T15:50:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/?p=904"},"modified":"2019-12-16T14:56:53","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T14:56:53","slug":"blackboard-upgrade-17th-18th-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.reading.ac.uk\/tel\/2016\/02\/05\/blackboard-upgrade-17th-18th-february\/","title":{"rendered":"Blackboard upgrade 17th &#8211; 18th February 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Blackboard VLE will be unavailable from 20:00 GMT on Wednesday 17<sup>th<\/sup> until around 08:00 GMT on Thursday 18<sup>th<\/sup> February while an upgrade takes place.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Turnitin will also be unavailable while this upgrade takes place.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the upgrade we will be running the 2015 Q4 release of Blackboard.<\/p>\n<p>This is a fairly minor upgrade, but it does bring some welcome usability enhancements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When creating an announcement, &#8220;Not Date Restricted&#8221; is now selected by default.<br \/>\n<em>This brings announcements in line with other Blackboard content, where date restrictions are only applied if you specifically select them.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Emails sent from Blackboard, including emailed Announcements, show the instructor\u2019s name as the sender.<br \/>\n<em>This change removes a source of confusion for students.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Support for the Microsoft Edge internet browser.<\/li>\n<li>The Content Editor now supports HTML5 Audio and Video playback in Chrome and Edge browsers.<br \/>\n<em>This means that when you upload audio and video files to your course, you can embed them as HTML5 Audio or HTML5 Video, thus avoiding the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bb.reading.ac.uk\/bbcswebdav\/institution\/Services\/CQSD\/TEL\/Guides\/google_plugins.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>issues currently encountered<\/em><\/a><em> \u00a0in the Chrome and Edge browsers.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Discussion Board enhancements: users can navigate from thread to thread without having to return to the main Discussions page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Moreover the release fixes a number of bugs, in particular some which have been causing issues for us, relating to Blackboard Tests and Assignments.<\/p>\n<p>For further details of what this release brings, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/en-us.help.blackboard.com\/Learn\/9.1_2014_04\/Administrator\/010_Release_Notes\/070_Release_Notes_9.1_2015_10\" target=\"_blank\">Release Notes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please note that our ability to introduce these improvements in a timely fashion is a direct result of our move to Blackboard Managed Hosting.
