Student Voices on:
At the University of Reading, we work in partnership with our student communities to shape strategic projects and university priorities. Students are at the heart of every decision we make, and we actively involve diverse groups of students to advise and guide us on key themes relating to teaching, learning and the student experience.
Below we showcase some of creative student partnership work undertaken as part of key strategic projects.
Student voices on: Academic Transitions
Academic transitions refer to a student’s journey throughout their time at university, particularly navigating periods of change. The UoR Student Panel reflected on their experiences of academic transitions including:
- Starting university (e.g. building relationships, moving away from home)
- adjusting to academic study in the UK (e.g. adjusting to new environments, language barriers, autonomous learning)
- progression from year to year (e.g. school to university, part 1 to part 2, undergraduate to postgraduate study)
- breaks or time away from the university (e.g. placements, study abroad, illness)
- returning to study after time away from education (e.g. after employment, mature learners)
- transitioning out of university into employment or further study (e.g. after graduation)
Student Voices on: Generative AI
In 2024 the UoR Student Panel were asked to consider the impact, opportunities, and challenges of using generative AI tools at university, and beyond their studies. Each student created a digital poster outlining the future of AI in their chosen subject area or intended field of work. Students were encouraged to use AI tools to help gather information, structure content and to design their poster.
Student Voices on: Preparing for assessment period
Student Partners took part in a zine-making workshop, exploring their experiences and ideas on how students could look after their wellbeing, manage time effectively, access support and prepare for assessments over the winter break.
