Which browser should I use to access Blackboard and Turnitin?
Google Chrome is CQSD TEL’s preferred Internet browser for use with with Blackboard and Turnitin. But both systems are compatible with the most recent versions of the main browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 11, Safari.
See the Blackboard Help site for full details about Supported Browsers for using Blackboard.
Latest browser support update:
- Internet Explorer 11 – most features of Blackboard should work, but Blackboard recommend that you switch to an alternative browser
- Internet Explorer 9 and 10 are not supported.
To check that your computer can use Blackboard, including plug-ins such as Java, run the browser-checker. This is updated regularly and worth checking out if you experience any technical issues.
See the Turnitin help site for a list of supported browsers: Turnitin system requirements.
When marking work using the Feedback Studio, reports suggest that Firefox is the most reliable browser to use.
Blocked plug-ins in Chrome and Microsoft Edge
Despite our enthusiasm for Google Chrome, Google have created some difficulties for web users by taking a very strict approach to third party plug-ins, which has meant that some audio and video content uploaded to Blackboard simply could not be accessed in Chrome. Similar issues apply to the Microsoft Edge browser.
Solution: recent versions of Blackboard provide a new way of embedding audio and video files such as MP3s and MP4s, which will make this content accessible in any browser and on any device. See this guide for details: Uploading and embedding audio and video files into your Blackboard course
