Internal moderation workflow Bb01: Blackboard Anonymous Marking + Anonymous Moderation inside 15 days

Technically possible, supported but not recommended, due to the complexity of workarounds required.

 

Roles

 

First marker

  1. Use the Attempt ID to flag papers which you wish to be moderated.Blackboard Anonymous Marking - Attempt ID
  2. Record this Attempt ID
    • on the Moderation form.
    • in ‘Grading Notes – Private’

  1. Email the Moderation Form to the internal moderator.

 

 

Moderator

  1. To locate submissions flagged by the first marker.
    • Go to the Assignment via the Grade Centre. Click on the contextual menu and choose Grade Attempts.

    • Under ‘User’ select the Attempt ID

    • Press Go.

  1. To locate submissions on grade boundaries.
    • It is not possible to sort submissions by Grade. Therefore it will be necessary to scroll through all of the submissions to see which papers should be moderated.
    • Go to the Assignment via the Grade Centre. Click on the contextual menu and choose Grade Attempts.

  1. Use the Attempt ID to record details of moderated papers
    • on the Moderation form
    • in ‘Grading Notes – Private’

  1. If you wish to change marks awarded by the first marker
    • Email the Moderation Form to the first marker.
    • Follow your School’s procedures to agree a final mark, and record this in the Moderation Form.
  1. If marks need to be changed as a result of the moderation process, apply these changes directly in Blackboard.
    • Locate and open the relevant student attempts from the Grade Centre. Edit the grade.
    • Press Submit.

  1. Email the Moderation Form to the Programme Admin team.

 

Administrator – after 15 days

  1. After 15 days reveal the grades for this assignment to students.
  2. Once anonymity has been lifted (this will happen automatically based on the date selected when setting up the assignment), use the Moderation form to create a Smart View, including all students’ whose work was moderated. To identify these students
    • go to the Grade Centre and locate the column for this assignment.
    • from the contextual menu choose ‘Grade History’..
    • find those with an entry under ‘Grading Notes’ in the COMMENTS column
      You could use Ctrl+F to search for all papers where such a comment has been left.
      N.B. There may be several pages in the Grade History, so be sure to check each page. You can use the ‘Show All’ button at the foot of the page to display all entries.Grade Centre - Grade History - Show All
    • find the anonymous attempt ID of moderated papers, and identify the student name.Blackboard Anonymous Marking - Anonymous Moderation - Grade History after 15 days
    • enter the student name on the Moderation form.
    • Alternatively, you can download the Grade History and use Excel to locate the relevant students.
      The downloaded file has a separate ‘Grading Notes’ column, so papers requiring moderation may be easier to identify.

      • Click on ‘Download’.

      • download the file and open it in Excel
      • The ‘Grading Notes’ field will probably contain a lot of html code, making it difficult to decipher, but you can use Ctrl+F to find submissions which have been moderated.Blackboard Anonymous Marking - Named Moderation - Downloaded Grade History
  1. Once you have identified the required students, create the Moderation Smart View.
