Blackboard course codes generally consist of

[RISIS programme or module code]-[academic year][Blackboard suffix]

e.g.

  • MM276-19-0MOD
  • AP2A20-20-1MOD
  • UFMSCISLT-19-0PR
  • Supplementary courses may be assigned an artificial course code e.g. ICMABSC-19-0SUP
  • New code for Teaching and Learning Resource for Staff. For example CS_SWS_TLR. These courses are for staff use only
Course Suffix Meaning
18-9, 19-0, 20-1 Academic year in which the course ran.
19-0MOD Blackboard course which brings together the taught occurrences of a RISIS module.

Typically this is the only version of a module which staff will see in Blackboard.

The MOD course automatically merges student enrolments from RISIS occurrence codes including: A, H, J, K, V (bringing together Study Abroad / Visiting / Attendance Only students with the main student cohort).

MOD is also used where two or more separate module codes are combined into a single course in Blackboard. In this case, the course name in Blackboard will include ‘Merged Course’.

19-0A RISIS occurrence code: first (or only) offering of a module in the given academic year.

These A occurrence courses will automatically be merged into the main MOD course in Blackboard.

Staff will not normally see A occurrences as separate courses in Blackboard.

19-0B RISIS module occurrence code – the second offering of a module in the given academic year, with a later start date than occurrence A.

B occurrences are NOT automatically merged into the main MOD course in Blackboard.

Staff will see B occurrences as separate courses in Blackboard.

19-0MA, 19-0MB, 19-0MC Module being taught at the University of Reading Malaysia campus.

MA is the first (or only) offering of a module in Malaysia, in the given academic year.

MB and MC represent the second and third student cohorts in the given academic year.

19-0SUP Supplementary Course, which is being used in addition to an individual RISIS modules or programme.
19-0PR Degree programme.
