YuJa is a video hosting service with its own recording software. Any videos you create for Teaching & Learning should be hosted on YuJa, especially videos that you intend to embed into your Blackboard Module.
We recommend uploading any videos you are currently making for Teaching & Learning to YuJa. If you have Stream videos in your Blackboard Module which you are planning to use in the 2022/23 academic year onwards, you should read our guidance on transitioning from Stream to YuJa.
YuJa for Classroom Capture
As part of the Learning Capture Project, Classroom Capture-specific microphones and the YuJa Software Capture Application have been installed in all centrally bookable rooms at the university. As of April 2022, departmental rooms are also being surveyed for installations. It is recommended that you check whether a teaching room has the necessary equipment before planning to record your teaching.
The YuJa Software Capture Application allows for multiple screen, camera and audio inputs and uploads automatically to your My Media area in YuJa upon completion of a recording. Find out more, including how to select the correct inputs on our YuJa for Classroom Capture page.
Please be aware that, at this time, Classroom Capture cannot support Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) working as the network microphones cannot connect to additional external inputs. As this situation changes, we will update our guidance to advise on the necessary steps to enable BYOD working.
YuJa for Personal Capture
YuJa can host recordings made in a variety of software. YuJa has its own recording software (the YuJa Software Capture Application and a browser-based Browser Capture Studio), however there is no requirement for staff to use these for Personal Capture content, such as screencasting.
Our recommendation is to use the method of recording with which you are most comfortable when creating Personal Capture content. For further guidance, including how to record with PowerPoint*, Teams*, Camtasia, and YuJa Capture tools, see our Online Teaching Toolkit: Making screencasts – Section 3 Choosing your recording software.
*There is no direct integration between YuJa and PowerPoint/Teams. However it is possible to record with these tools and upload an mp4 to YuJa – see Uploading videos to YuJa.
Annotating with YuJa & other Tools
In some circumstances, you may wish to use annotation tools whilst recording your videos. The YuJa Software Capture application and PowerPoint (see Making screencasts – Section 3 Choosing your recording software) both allow for the use of annotation tools whilst recording.
You can read more about using annotation when recording Teaching & Learning content from our pedagogically-focused guide Captioning Screencasts.
