Turnitin: Access and View Assignments

In your course, you can access all Turnitin assignments by going to the submission point for the relevant assignment.

Open Turnitin for your Assignment

There are two ways to access the Turnitin assignment inbox for your assessment via the Gradebook or via the submission point.

Open via the submission point

Go to the Course Content area locate the assignment in the Assessments section in the folder for your assessment.

Click on the submission title.


Open via the Gradebook

  • Go to the Gradebook via the tab in the top menu (a) of your Ultra course.
  • From the Markable Items view locate the assignment and click on the assignment title.
    • (b) click on the assignment title
    • (c) marking status “x to mark”


Turnitin will open in the same tab or a new one, depending on your settings.

From the Assignment Inbox, under the Grade column, click on the pencil icon under the Grade column. This icon indicates that this student’s submission has not yet been marked.

Anonymous Marking

When anonymous marking is enabled, you will not be able to see the Author’s name.

The authors name can be revealed if necessary, click on Reveal author’s identity and add the reason, such as a corrupt file, then click on Reveal.

Sort papers in the Inbox

You can sort the list of Assignments by any of the available columns by clicking on the heading name.

  • Author
  • Paper title
  • paper ID
  • Uploaded date

The search results will show as a filtered version of the inbox.  The search covers all the columns.

Filter by Group

If you have groups set up on your course you will see a filter field at the top of the inbox, it will be set to All Students as default.

Use the drop down menu to select the group you need to find.


Submit on Behalf of a Student

Students often send work via RISIS Ask a Question or when needing support to upload. In Turnitin, you are able to upload a student’s work on their behalf.

  1. Find the student you wish to upload on behalf of
  2. Click on the three dots in the Options column and select Upload from contextual menu
  3. In the Upload screen follow the same process as the student to Upload to Turnitin.

When anonymity is turned on

When anonymity is on, you will be able to use the search function to search for the student name or the submission ID, depending on whether the student has a submission in the inbox already or not.

If the student has not submitted:

  • Search for the students name to find the student you wish to upload on behalf of
  • Hover over the upload option to ensure it is the correct student

If the student has submitted:

  • Search for the submission ID to find the submission you wish to replace.
  • With anonymity on the student’s name will not be revealed. You could use the “Reveal author’s identify” if you wish to confirm that you have the right student.
