Communications in Ultra Courses

There are a number of tools you can use to communicate with students on your Blackboard Learn Ultra.

Key information

There are a number of ways to communicate with your students, and for them to communicate with each other, on a Blackboard Ultra course. The main tools for communicating with students on an Ultra course are Messages and Announcements. Class conversations and Discussions can be used for communications between students on the course as well as instructors. Journals are a personal space for students to communicate privately with you or for personal reflection.

How it works?

The Messages function is set as Read-only for students at the University of Reading. You will be able to use the tool to message your students (all, individuals or groups) but they cannot use it to reply to or write messages. Announcements will send to all enrolled users, can send as an email, and can be saved as a draft and posted when required. A new announcement will display prominently in the course when the student re-enters the course.
