Inclusive. Effective. Evidence-led.
The Charlie Waller Institute combines psychological research and high-quality teaching so that clinicians and patients can benefit from the most effective Evidence-Based Psychological Treatments.
Founded as a collaboration between the University of Reading, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the Charlie Waller Trust – we aim to inspire clinicians to widen their knowledge and make a real difference in patients’ lives.
We are committed to training practitioners in psychological approaches that have been shown to work. Our workshops and courses are led by nationally and internationally recognised clinical academics whose expertise is helping improve clinicians’ skills.
Our teaching is underpinned by psychological research into impactful treatments of conditions such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Wednesday 18th February 2026, 9.30am-4.30pm, online
Engagement among younger clients (16-24) in adult Talking Therapies is known to be poorer than other age demographics. Additional knowledge and support is required to develop staff skills to address some of the barriers to engagement. This CPD training event aims to provide theory and practical tools for mental health practitioners (HI and PWP practitioners, supervisors and service leads) who currently work with young people in adult mental health services.
The aim of the session is to inform and/or expand attendees' knowledge on the developmental stages of child development, highlight key legislation and safeguarding practices to inform ethical working and develop and increased confidence adapting clinical practice to engage younger people.
