Trauma – Introduction to CBT (Online)

£700

This 4-day module will provide a thorough background to the fundamentals of cognitive behavioural therapy, and the role of evidence-based interventions within the NHS. No previous CBT knowledge is needed. On completion of this module students will have a detailed understanding of the generic approach to CBT and be ready to be trained in disorder specific models and interventions.

Content begins with cognitive theory and how it has evolved into a psychological intervention. This knowledge is then applied to the development of clinical formulations for the understanding of mental health problems. The varied levels of formulation are considered, along with the associated clinical issues of putting these into practice. The teaching will take the form of lectures/small group work, audio and videotape, role-play exercises and discussion.

The aims of this course are to:

  • develop an understanding of evidence-based psychological treatments and the importance that this occupies in the provision of therapeutic services
  • understand the role of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.
provide an introduction to evidence-based psychological treatments and the particular importance of cognitive behavioural therapy in the treatment of various Axis I disorders.
  • train students to understand cognitive behavioural theory, and key therapeutic strategies such as the use of personalised formulation, thought diaries and behavioural experiments

Course dates are 10th, 12th, 17th and 19th March from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Due to the current situation we are unable to physically host workshops at the University of Reading. With the ever-changing guidance around restrictions, we anticipate this to be a short-to-medium term arrangement – most likely until September 2021. This is under constant review and we will resume our usual programme as soon as possible, whilst continuing to run the online events as an alternative for those who cannot attend in person.

Events will be delivered using Microsoft Teams, for which delegates will be sent a link for joining. No previous experience of this tool or specific software is required (although we do recommend that you access the event using a connection with good bandwidth).

Taught by leading experts, our workshops provide training opportunities in evidence-based treatments. All of our courses are accredited and are BABCP compliant providing 5 CPD hours, with an approximate 50/50 split between theory and skills. The cost of the workshop includes an electronic CPD certificate. All workshops, unless otherwise stated, are intended for a cross/mixed ability audience.

We also offer a range of training options in all psychological treatments, all of which are recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
