This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course provides training in Inpatient practice in Children and Young People Mental Health (CYP MH) Tier 4 settings.
NHS partners send teams of up to 5 established staff in Inpatient unit roles or Alternative to Admission roles onto the CPD training to equip them with the necessary skills to fulfil their current role and provide treatment which is based on best evidence, outcomes-focused and client-informed practice. Employment is generally by the NHS for the duration of training, and ongoing after completion of the training.
You will develop your skills with a mixture of content and skills teaching, as well as undertaking reflections on your practice.
The training runs over the course of six weeks, and consists of roughly 12 taught days, and a reading day.
You will be taught through a variety of teaching methods including lectures, small group exercises, and self-directed learning. You will also apply and develop the skills you learn in your CPD training within your Inpatient unit or Alternative to Admission team, via a service improvement project with the other members of staff from your unit that are attending the training.
The training is not assessed, but there is a requirement to attend 80% of the sessions in order for a CPD certificate to be issued.
No prior academic or professional qualifications are required. The training is suitable for any staff from the Multi-Discplinary Team from band 2 upwards.
The CPD training is fully funded by the NHS; services who have previously expressed interest and received commissioned places will put forward names from their staff to attend.
If there are commissioned spaces unfilled, Charlie Waller Institute will contact unit leads in relevant regions to offer these.
Completion of the training does not qualify you for any specific role but attendees can expect their certificate of completion to be recognised by Inpatient units and CAMHS services, as well as enabling positive relationships, co-operation and shared learning across your unit.
The Charlie Waller Institute usually offers two intakes per year in January and September. The number of places available per cohort is dependent on NHS England service funding.
If you are interested in attending the training, contact your unit lead in the first instance to either:
Request to be included in the next Expression of Interest for the training
OR
Request your name to be put forward for any spare spaces they are aware of for an upcoming cohort
