A new project is about to start on the 2nd of March 2024 by a research team led by Dr Anna Tsakalaki, Lecturer in Education at the Institute of Education (UoR). The project aims to support Ukrainian refugee families with children of primary school age to build a toolkit of strategies to better support their children’s development of literacy skills at home.
What is the project about:
This new project is based on a previous successful project with local families, the Little Literacy Lessons for Families (https://littleliteracylessons.org/). The learning materials are translated in Ukrainian and there will be educators and interpreters in hand to support the families to lead their own literacy activities and feel more confident in supporting the children.
Who is eligible:
The only prerequisite is that the families are refugees from Ukraine having arrived in the UK in the last 2 years, that the children are of primary school age, and that they can travel to Reading for 4 training sessions on a Saturday afternoon over March – June 2024.
What you can do:
Please see attached the call in Ukrainian and English and speak to any families in your school that may be eligible to take part. Also, if you know of any eligible families in any other capacity, please could you pass on the call to them as well.
