Communication Partner Training
This clinic provides communication partner training (conversation training) for people with communication difficulties and a partner (spouse, partner, family member or friend).
What do we do?
We offer blocks of sessions at these times:
- October to December
- January to June
You will usually come for 6-8 weekly sessions.
The sessions are all delivered by student speech and language therapists, supervised by qualified speech and language therapists.
What happens in the sessions?
We work with both people with communication difficulties and their families and friends, because good conversations need effort from both people.
We talk about how conversations work.
We video some of your conversations (with your permission) so we can watch together and see what works well and what could help with conversations.
Together, we set goals and practise strategies to help your conversations at home.
You will have time to try these strategies between sessions.
Who can come:
Adults (18 years +) who have:
- A diagnosis of stroke aphasia
- Have communication difficulties impacting day to day life
- Have a partner who can attend all group sessions with them
- Are able to attend in-person sessions.
- Agree to work with students.
This clinic is not for people who have had a brain injury, brain tumour or primary progressive aphasia.
