The Student Activity Log

You can monitor a student’s participation in your Blackboard course using the Student Activity log, which you can access through the Analytics tab on the Blackboard Navigation bar, and clicking on a student’s name to enter the Student Dashboard:

Once in the Student Dashboard, click the Activity Log tab:

You can see the following information for a specific student, which might help you analyse their overall engagement with the course, as well as individual course items and activities, including formative and summative assessment over a specific period:

  • Course Access 
  • Assessment Started 
  • Assessment Draft saved 
  • Assessment Submitted 
  • Assessment Auto-submitted 
  • Discussion Access 
  • Discussion Draft saved 
  • Discussion Edit 
  • Discussion Reply 
  • Discussion Response 
  • Document Access 
  • Journal Access 

You can filter the Student Activity Log by ‘Event’ type, and set it to show the past 140 days. Any data before this period will be deleted. The log can take up to 20 minutes to update from the time of each student activity.

You can download the Student Activity Log into a CSV file.
