PTSD can arise after the experience of, and treatment for, critical illness – a timely issue given the current COVID-19 pandemic. Treatment in ICU is particularly high risk for PTSD, with approximately 25% of survivors developing PTSD.

This four-day course will cover complex (type II) trauma from both childhood and adulthood experiences. It will review the differential impact of multiple, repeated and prolonged trauma on neuropsychological development, attachment and cognition, including difficulties associated with Complex PTSD (C-PTSD).

This six-day course comprising a four-day block of complex trauma plus two additional CPD days of your choice, will cover complex (type II) trauma from both childhood and adulthood experiences. It will review the differential impact of multiple, repeated and prolonged trauma on neuropsychological development, attachment and cognition, including difficulties associated with Complex PTSD (C-PTSD).

This 4-day module is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of psychological theories and of the current evidence-based interventions for treating PSTD. Students will gain skills in the assessment and formulation of PTSD as well as in specific therapeutic Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) techniques in working with PTSD, as recommended by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
