Class Collaborate: Accessing Recordings

If you record a Collaborate session from your Blackboard course, then once the recording has been processed, it will be available from the Recordings area in Class Collaborate.

Please note: To comply with our recordings policy all Class Collaborate recordings will be automatically transferred to YuJa via the YuJa Connector. For more information see our guide on the YuJa Connector.

Staff and Students can access the Collaborate recording via the Details & Actions menu.

Click on the three dot menu next to Class Collaborate and select View all recordings form the contextual menu.

Staff View

Student view

Student will also be able to access the recordings via the Details & Actions menu.

Students have a simplified menu with less options.

All recordings page

Staff and students see essentially the same screen, although students will not see any editing options. The default under ‘Recent Recordings’ is to show any recordings made in the last 30 days.

Depending on the length of the recording it could take some time before it is available.

To view older recordings, click where it says ‘Recent Recordings’ to reveal the menu and select ‘Recordings In A Range’. You can then specify the start and end dates you want to search.

You can also search for recordings by keywords used in the name given to the recording. Click the ‘Search Sessions’ button (magnifying glass icon) in the top right of the Recording page.

Click on the title under Recording Name to watch the recording. (Opens in a new window.)

Click the Recording Options button besides a specific recording to do the following:

  1. Click Watch Now to view the recording. (Opens in a new window.)
  2. Click Download Download icon to save a copy of the recording in MP4 format.
Note: This option is only available if ‘Allow Recording Downloads’ has been ticked in the Course Room or Session Settings.
  3. Click Recording Settings to change the recording name, change access to Pubic or upload Closed Captions.
  4. Click Copy Link to copy the web link to the recording.
Be aware: Links will only work when the Access is set to Public – therefore anyone sent the link can access and view the recording. (Do not circulate this link unless you have permission from those who took part in the session.)
  5. Click the Delete button Waste Paper delete Icon to remove a recording.
If you click Delete, you will be prompted to confirm your action before the recording is actually deleted. (Note: This option is not visible to students. Deleted recordings cannot be recovered.)

Watch a recording

Click the title of a recording or the Watch Now option to open a recording. The recording loads in a new window.

Note: It might take a little while for the recording to load.

Once loaded. Click the Play button to watch the recording.

  • (a) Play, skip forward and back buttons
  • (b) Volume
  • (c) Playback speed
  • (d) Captions if available (captions will be available for the YuJa version of the recording in YuJa)
  • (e) Full screen option
  • (f) Open the Collaborate panel, the session chat would be recorded.

Note: You can anonymise the chat for the purpose of recordings in the course room or session settings.

Who can view Collaborate recordings?

New Collaborate recordings are by default only visible to staff and students enrolled on the Blackboard course in which the session was scheduled.

To comply with our recordings policy all Class Collaborate recordings will be automatically transferred to YuJa via the YuJa Connector. For more information see our guide on the YuJa Connector, see the Policy for the Recording of Teaching and Learning Activities (Learning Capture).

If you do need to share the recording, you will need to exclude any student activity and share the video from YuJa.

Has a recording been viewed or downloaded?

In the Recordings screen switching to the Recording Usage tab will let you know who has viewed or downloaded the videos.
