Set up Offline Submissions
To set up Offline Submissions set up a Blackboard Assignment as usual – giving a title, instructions and due date.
Select the option Collect submissions offline.
You will notice that this greys out some of the setting options to streamline the experience. For example prohibiting late submissions is not needed.
In the Marking and Submissions section:
- only one attempt is allowed
- anonymous marking is not deemed necessary
- you can still allow two markers per student or delegate markers for a number of students
Additionally you cannot set a time limit.
If you are using a rubric for marking and feedback, this can be added at this stage.
Save and close these options to continue.
Once the settings are applied you will see a banner notification through the assignment and marking process indicating that the submissions will be collected offline, but that by using this assignment type students will be able to receive their marks and feedback via Blackboard.
Marking Offline Submissions
Marking offline submissions can happen through the submission point or Gradebook as usual.
There will be no submissions to mark present automatically. Once you have the students’ physical submissions or a record of their presentation etc, you will need to create a submission for the student.
In the Marks area the marking status will be 1 to mark for each student. Click on the 1 to mark link or the student’s name.
This will launch a side menu automatically logging the date and time of adding the marks and feedback. This is designed to be able to restrospectively apply a date which the submission or presentation etc occured offline. You may wish to use the current time and date, but equally this might be more appropriate to indicate the time and date of the student work.
Save the attempt information and the Blackboard marking will open.
- Add written feedback using the Blackboard text editor
- Add rubric feedback to define how to work met the marking criteria and give a mark
- Save Changes button to save the feedback and marks
- The needs marking menu showing one student per time or all marked students
4. Can be manilpulated with the drop down menu.
Once you have marked one student repeat the marking steps until all necessary marks are added to the assignment.
