Research at Reading

Research at the University of Reading is recognised as world-leading and internationally excellent, as seen in the most recent Research Excellence Framework. Our researchers are tackling some of the biggest challenges facing society today.

Research at Reading is based on four key themes – agriculture, food and health, environment, heritage and creativity, and prosperity and resilience. The themes are open-ended and overlapping, crossing traditional boundaries and enabling us to nurture innovation and deliver impactful and curiosity-driven research.

These themes bring together expertise from across the University’s 30 research divisions, including agri-food economics and social science, art and design, biomedical sciences and biomedical engineering, climate, economics, education language and learning, film theatre and television, law, psychology and clinical language sciences, politics and philosophy.

Working across continents and disciplines, our researchers explore ways to tackle issues that positively impact communities locally and globally.
