Inspiring The Next Generation

Remember when you were at college or sixth form and you came to Reading for the first time for an Open Day? Remember how terrifying and exciting it was to be on the cusp of making that huge decision about where to go and what to study for your degree, for years…?

As the University prepares to welcome thousands of potential students to its summer undergraduate Open Days on 21 and 22 June, it is fair to say that their experience of our campus will be very different from yours (check out the 360 Virtual Open Day to see for yourself).

Maybe you have a child or grandchild who is currently choosing which university to attend? Maybe you have friends, family or colleagues who are confused about where they or their loved ones will be spending the next few years of study? Perhaps now is the time to break out to the photo albums – real and virtual – and share your memories of Reading!

A city on the up

As a graduate, you’ll know that Reading is a fantastic place to live, study and work. It’s started picking up awards like City of the Year. The University itself is increasingly recognised for its standing in the world, both for pioneering research, with 98% rated of international standard in the latest Research Excellence Framework, and for our fantastic graduate employment rates and levels of student satisfaction.

When making these big life decisions, sometimes a personal recommendation from someone who has lived it and loved it can make all the difference.

Why choose Reading?

At Reading, our Open Days offer the perfect opportunity to see what we’re all about and to experience our lively campus atmosphere. Anyone interested in studying a degree at Reading can meet current undergraduates and tutors from the subjects they are interested in, enjoy talks, sample lectures and demonstrations, and go on guided campus tours. While they’re here, they can take a look around student accommodation and find out about all the great social, sporting and extra-curricular activities we have on offer.

In the Alumni team, we love hearing stories of different generations of the same family studying at Reading. All experiencing life at the University, in the same town, but in incredibly different ways.

We love it here and hope you did too! Why not reminisce about the best parts of your time at Reading and share that with others?

What now?

If you think we might be the right place for your family or friends, make sure you come and see us at the Alumni stand in the huge inflatable dome – it would be amazing to reconnect.

Reading’s 2019 summer Open Days are on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June. If you can’t make those, we also have Open Days on Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 October.
