Varsity 2024

Varsity 2024 took place in March, hosted by the Reading Students’ Union. Although Oxford Brookes took the overall victory this year, our Reading team of athletes gave another fantastic performance.

An athlete cheering, whilst holding his helmet Varsity is the ultimate showdown of athleticism and spirit between universities. The event features an array of sports from American Football and Ultimate Frisbee, to swimming and table tennis. The various matches see the University of Reading athletes – the Reading Knights – take on the Oxford Brookes athletes – the Oxford Brookes Bulldogs.

This year, the action took place on our home turf with the competition culminating on Saturday 23 March with a full day of fixtures. The final score was 17 to Reading and 24 to Brookes.

Chrissy Nazif, Senior Sports Coordinator, said:

“We are beyond proud of all our Reading Knights athletes that participated in this year’s event. From fantastic wins to challenging battles, it most certainly was an event to remember.”

Two athletes playing lacrosse while the referee watchesSpectators – including students and those from the wider community – came down in their hundreds to support the Reading Knights. Those watching and participating were asked to sum up Varsity in two words.

Their answers included: life-changing, exhilarating, excellent, ambitious, brilliant fun, and a great experience.
