Alumni Library Membership

In summer 2022, the University of Reading Library made some significant changes to improve how we can support our alumni.

Emma Allison, Library Experience and Engagement Manager, shares with CONNECTED why it’s important to enable our graduates to continue using the Library. She said: “During your studies at the University we support you with all the resources you need, such as core textbooks, as well as providing great access to other resources such as fiction, film and music.

“If you’re interested in continuing your studies or simply love reading and learning, the Reading Graduates’ Library membership is an easy way to stay connected.”

Discounted Library membership rate

As a graduate, you can now join the Library under our Reading Graduates‘ Scheme which is £45 for the year. Membership includes:

  • a Library card – with online access to your Library account;
  • 24/6+* access to study space – we have over 1,500 study spaces spread over six floors;
  • borrowing – up to 5 items and a wealth of resources to browse and immerse yourself in.

Extended borrowing

You can now borrow items for six weeks, instead of only three and, we’ve also updated over 41,000 items from the seven-day loan to the standard six-week loan. There’s lots more to choose from, since we’ve made literally thousands more items borrowable.

We’ve also removed all fines for items that aren’t in demand – we’ll only charge for lost or damaged items or for items that have been recalled if you don’t return them within the seven-day period.

Visit the Library website for more information or get in touch. We hope to see you soon.

*The Library closes on Saturday evening at 21:00 and reopens on Sunday morning at 08:30.
