We are delighted to launch our new Celebration of Volunteering, through which we will be recognising the volunteering achievements of members of our University community.
We want to bring together alumni, current students, University staff and community partners to award, showcase and celebrate those who have given up their time to volunteer for the University, in a particular field, or for their community.
A celebration event will be taking place on Thursday 27 April 2023, at which the Alumni and Supporter Volunteer of the Year award will be presented. This prestigious award will recognise alumni and supporters who have gone above and beyond in their volunteering work, whether that volunteering is in support of the University, a particular field, or their local community.
The event will also include an exhibition showcasing the variety of interesting and impactful volunteering opportunities that alumni, supporters, students and staff are involved in.
Rachel Dean, Alumni Volunteering Officer, said: “Volunteering is so important within communities. Helping others whether that is through education, looking after the environment, or supporting a charity, makes such a difference to people’s lives – as well as offering fulfilment to the volunteer’s life. We’d love to know how you are making a difference within your community and to celebrate this with you.”
How to nominate
Nominations for the awards are now open, and nominations should be submitted online. You can nominate yourself or someone else, for any category that you wish, for volunteering delivered at any time between January 2020 and December 2022. Nominations will close at midnight on Sunday 5 March 2023.
Whether nominated or not, we would love to hear about the volunteering that you may be involved in. Please share your volunteering stories with us.
We look forward to receiving volunteering nominations from across our alumni and supporter community and to celebrating them within the University. If volunteering isn’t something you’ve done before, but would like to, please register to volunteer with the University here.
