2021 Virtual Celebrations

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Reading has taken the difficult decision to postpone the summer 2021 graduation ceremonies to July 2022. CONNECTED shares with you the latest news about the Class of 2021 virtual celebrations that will be taking place instead, and details about how we’d like you to help congratulate our students.

Our students have worked incredibly hard to complete their degrees during such a difficult time, facing a multitude of challenges presented by the pandemic. The University is very proud of our students for facing these challenges head-on and we’re pleased to be celebrating the achievements of our finalists as their studies draw to a close.

We would like to congratulate all University of Reading finalists on completing their studies, and we look forward to welcoming you into our community to continue your journey with us.

Celebrate with our finalists

To celebrate our finalists’ achievements, throughout July the University is running a series of virtual celebrations using a digital platform to enable staff, finalists and their supporters to share positive messages of congratulations.

Our alumni have made us proud by stepping up to support our finalists during Reading’s second virtual celebrations. All of our alumni’s messages of congratulations will be posted on our Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Below, you can watch messages of congratulations from: Cath Bishop, Olympic medal winner, speaker and author; Matthew Toresen MBE, who participated in the 2010 Equal Love campaign challenging the ban on gay marriage; and Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne, a GB Rower competing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.

You can get involved yourself by uploading videos of congratulations to: virtualcelebrations@reading.ac.uk.

Alumni Welcome Event

We would like to take this opportunity to invite all of our new alumni to join us for a virtual Alumni Welcome event – to introduce you to the benefits you are entitled to now that you have completed your studies with us.

The session will take place from 18.30 on Wednesday 8 September 2021, and will be hosted by our Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Parveen Yaqoob.

The event will also feature speakers from the Alumni and Supporter Engagement Team and Careers Team, as well as members from our alumni community. This special event will give you the opportunity to ask questions about the support available to you after graduation.
