Smile with sustainability: Get Involved in the University of Reading’s Recycling Challenge!

At the University of Reading, sustainability isn’t just a goal, it’s something we’re genuinely passionate about. Over the years, we’ve been making great strides in reducing our environmental impact. Since 2015, we’ve managed to cut waste per person by 35%, and right now, an impressive 62% of the waste we generate is either recycled, reused, or composted. But we don’t want to stop there, we need your help to keep pushing forward!

On 12 February, we’re inviting you to take part in our Recycling Challenge in the Library foyer, and we think you’ll have a great time while learning a thing or two about the importance of sorting waste properly.

Why Sorting Your Waste Matters

You’ve probably heard that recycling is important, but did you know that the way we sort our waste can make a big difference? When we separate things like paper, plastics, and compostable correctly, it’s much easier to recycle them properly. On the flip side, mixing the wrong items together can lead to entire batches of recycling being sent to landfill instead, not what we want!

Taking a moment to think about how we dispose of things might seem small, but it adds up. And that’s where you come in! By joining the Recycling Challenge, you’ll get a chance to test your knowledge, brush up on your waste-sorting skills, and learn some new tips and tricks to make recycling even easier.

What’s In It for You?

Not only will you walk away with a better understanding of how to recycle right, but there’s also a fun prize up for grabs! Whether you’re a recycling expert or just looking for a bit of fun, this is a great opportunity to get involved and make a difference.

How to Get Involved

So, if you’re free on 12 February, swing by the library foyer, take part in the challenge, and see how much you know about waste segregation. It’s a small step, but together, we can make a huge impact on our campus and beyond.

Let’s keep up the good work and keep making the University of Reading a shining example of sustainability. We can’t wait to see you there!
