UK Environmental Legislation
There is a wide range of environmental legislation that is applicable to the University. Sustainability Services manage a legal register to document and evaluate relevant legislation to ensure the University remains compliant with all applicable legislation and other requirements. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Assessment Method)
Is a building assesment using scientifically-based sustainability metrics and indices that covers a range of environmental categories. Its categories evaluate energy and water use, health and wellbeing, pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes. Buildings are rated and certified on a scale of 'Pass', 'Good', 'Very Good', 'Excellent' and 'Outstanding'.
The University of Reading requires new building to now achieve Very Good on its BREEAM assessment.
