Following the completion of construction in December, we are pleased to announce that a new secure cycle shelter is now open at the SportsPark on Whiteknights Campus.![]()
The shelter is accessed via key card and includes improved lighting, CCTV coverage, and a bike maintenance stand. Therefore, providing a safer and more convenient place to store your bike.
This facility is the latest in a series of new, more secure cycle shelters being delivered across Whiteknights Campus to help combat bike theft and support staff, students, and visitors who choose to cycle to the University. Recent additions include shelters outside the Library (summer 2025) and Whiteknights House (December 2025). Additionally, another shelter currently under construction outside the Minghella building in central Whiteknights Campus.
This project represents a significant milestone in the University’s Five Year Travel Plan, delivering tangible improvements in direct response to feedback received through the 2024 Travel Survey.
Accessing the shelter:
To access the shelter, you will need your Campus Card and your unique four-digit ID number. Staff and students should first visit the Security office at Whiteknights House to have access added to their University ID card. This only needs to be done once. To obtain your ID number, visit the Campus Card webpage and sign in. Once you have these, you can enter the cycle shelter by tapping your card and entering the number.
Gym members who are not staff or students are also entitled to use the shelter. Please speak to the SportsPark reception team to arrange access.
Stay secure:
Staff and students are reminded to be vigilant when storing their bikes to help us combat thefts of bikes on campus. Please be wary of allowing others to follow you into cycle shelters. We recommend you use a quality D-lock to secure your bike within the shelter. These can be purchased at the Security office in Whiteknights House.
