As part of the University’s Five-Year Travel Plan – our roadmap for promoting more sustainable, low-carbon travel options – we’re continuing to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across campus. We’re pleased to announce that new EV chargers in Car Park 6 and Car Park 8 at Whiteknights Campus are now fully operational and available for public use. You can read more about the Travel Plan here.
What’s New?
- Car Park 6 – 6 EV charging bays, available for public use.
- Car Park 8 – 8 EV charging bays, also available for public use.
Altogether, these additional 14 charging bays significantly increase charging capacity on campus. Therefore making it easier for staff, students and visitors to charge their vehicles while on site.
Charging Provider – Amp EV
Alongside the infrastructure expansion, we’ve also switched our EV charging provider from BP Pulse to Amp EV. This change not only delivers a more user-friendly experience but also improves consistency across our charging network.
To use the chargers, you’ll need to download the Amp EV app. QR codes are clearly displayed on each charger to make access quick and straightforward if you haven’t downloaded the app in advance.
Standard parking charges continue to apply where relevant, and we kindly ask that drivers move their vehicle once charging is complete to ensure fair access for others.
Why It Matters
Expanding EV charging infrastructure is a key action within our Five-Year Travel Plan and supports the University’s wider carbon reduction commitments.
As electric vehicle ownership continues to grow across the UK, providing reliable, accessible charging facilities is essential in enabling lower-emission travel choices. Whether you already drive an EV or are considering switching in the future, increased on-campus provision helps make sustainable travel more practical and convenient.

Let’s continue making progress toward a cleaner, more sustainable future – one charge at a time.
