Going green at Green Festival 2023

This year’s Green Festival was held from 14-16 November and it was packed schedule of events which attracted a range of people across our University Community. The Sustainability Team would like to extend their thanks to the following people and teams who we worked closely with to deliver this great programme of events: Reading Students Union, Careers, Dominque Davies, Dylan Parkes, Reading Buses, Leonie Fisher, Bethany Brown, Jamie Robertson, Hedgehog Society, RECC, Citizens Advice, Water Aid, Community team, Students Advice Service, cycling team, Chaplaincy, UPP, MERL, Student Comms, Digital Engagement Team, Reading Students Union communications team and the University Internal Comms Team to organise, co-ordinate and promote all the different events.

Sustainability is a key strategic priority for the University and an estimated 350 people directly participated, with many more engaging through other mediums. Our highlights this year included:

  • 25 people taking part in the Hedgehog Society led litter pick, taking direct action to help our wildlife on campus.
  • 10 people taking part in a very enjoyable meditative nature walk, learning how to connect with nature to help our individual wellbeing.
  • 30 students taking part on our Explore Green Careers panel and networking event, giving ideas about how to build a green career path.
  • 15 people taking part in our first ever Eco poetry workshop, using spoken word to help ease eco anxiety.
  • 20 people taking part in our online webinar exploring how we manage waste and recycling at the University.

Thank you to everyone who took part, became informed and took action!
