University shortlisted in three categories at the 2022 Green Gown Awards!

We are very please to announce that the University has been named as a finalist for the Sustainability Institution of the Year Award at this years UK & Ireland Green Gown Awards! The category is one of three which University projects have been shortlisted in – the most nominations in a single year since 2015.

The Awards, administered by the EAUC (the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges), recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK and Ireland each year. The University’s last success at the Green Gowns came in 2017, when we received the Carbon Reduction award for delivering a reduction of 35% in our emissions across the University (from a 2008/09 baseline).

This year, the University has been shortlisted in three categories for the following projects:

  • Sustainability Institution of the Year Award: ‘The art of SMART sustainability leadership’
  • Campus Health, Food and Drink: ‘Giving Food More Thought™’
  • Next Generation Learning and Skills: ‘Climate in the Classroom: Leading transformation of climate education in UK schools and colleges’

In response to the University’s work on all three projects, the Green Gowns Award judges provided the following feedback:

“Very impressive and well quantified headline statistics that go above and beyond legislation and sector benchmarks, particularly with regards to estates led activity. There was clarity and openness about the impact of the pandemic on your progress… [and] the examples of research impact are world-leading and again, impressive.”

Each project will be assessed in further detail over the next couple of months, before winners are announced at the Green Gown Awards Ceremony at Loughborough University on 8th November.

We are proud to be nominated in each category and hope our efforts will be recognised further with a win in November! Watch this space for updates on the results, as well as more information about our sustainability initiatives. You can find a full list of the categories and finalists here.
